A follow up of our school project in Waterloo a suburb of Freetown, Sierra Leone 2016.

Our logo - SWANSON PRIMARY SCHOOL

We are now two acedamicyears away from our goal of establishing a complete kindergaten and an elementary school for the poor children of Waterloo a section of Freetown trying to rise from the ashes of the brutal civil war of the 90s and the recent impact of  the deadly virous ebola which claim the lives of thousands of lives in West Africa including Sierra, Liberia and Guinea.. Up  to date the Swanson Primary school has a kindergarten clases and an elementary section which includes classes 1, 2, 3, and 4. We will be adding class 5 next academic year and class 6 the following academic year to complete our goal of an elementary school for Waterloo. Some of our pupils are orphans of who lost their parents to the ebola virous. Our school has four female teachers who are dedicted to teaching our students giving them some of the best education in the country.

Thanks to our school many of the poor parents can afford to send their children to school a choice which is not easy for them because the resourses are not always easy to come by.

2013 - The initial work on the building that will house the Swanson Primary School in Waterloo a suburb of Freetown, Sierra Leone. We had to enlarge the small windows on the church building so as to allow more light and a better ventilation into the room for a better learnining enviornment.

Pastor Jimissa digging drainage to allow the rain water to flow into the nearby stream behind the house
2013 - Plastering and white washing the walls. The young people were very active in the renovation project of the church which we now use for classes

The walls are made of sun-dried mud bricks so they had to be plastered with a cover of cement to avoind erosion during the heavy rainy season

Two proud young boys showing off their self-made hats made from empty cement paper bags

A young boy bravely working from a make shift skafle to reach the high part of the walls

2013 - Harvesting vegetables in the school garden. Pupils and teachers and parents work together in the garden

Sweet potatoes from the school garden

Our young preschool pupil eager to help in the garden waters the plants in the tough dry period

2013 - Making the school desk. We had to contract a local carpenter to build the school desk which the young people carried on their heads to the school building.

Carrying loads on the head is the cheepest and most comon means of trasporting materials in Sierra Leone

We even tried to pack the car with as many chairs as possible
